Drearyweather - I said "borrowed" because some obvious parts of REM's song were used. Whether it was intentional or not I don't know. But it seems like a few of their new songs "borrow" from other sources.

No wonder the Matrix was written. Yet like with Animal Farm, how many recognize they are caught up in it?

As I listened to the music, I was sure I've heard it before. Here it is, at least I think so.

People "borrow" music from everywhere but how ironic that it is, that REM put out "losing my religion?"

What do you do when your Operating System is corrupted?
by stuckinarut2 ini was just thinking of an illustration that may apply.. what do we do if our computer operating system is corrupted?
perhaps through a virus, or because of outdated or corrupted technology?.
do we hang on to that computer because of sentimental reasons?

If you try to spring that on a witness, they would be thinking all the time that you were the virus. Then they would reBOOT you out the door.

I think it is about having an idea that makes you happy but it's not science. So it's a no.

If you really have a six figure income, smoke the occasional cigar and vote, I would say that of course you would just walk away from the WT. You'd have money and you've been living the lifestyle you want.
You aren't an obedient follower so you haven't "simplified" your life by giving up your house or your profitable job (or maybe business) If you have family, they will probably have your same faith, so when you walk away they'll follow the money.
You're a contrast to the believing sincere people who put their trust in men who say they worship God and get direction from Him. They are the ones that have sacrificed their time, lives, families and money for the WT. They are the ones when they find they have been lied to, suffer.
You sound like a hypocrite.

compound complex - I have a painting from when I was five. I think it is the best impressionistic painting of ice cream sundaes you can find. From age 5, I only thought of myself as an artist. Then the WT came into my life as well as low self esteem. Now days, I'm struggling to be motivated. But I want to do art. I'm just my own worst enemy.
When you are young and not battered by others or your own critical self, your art shows a free flowing expression that is often lost, when the need to "follow the lines" appears. That is why I treasure my 5 year old picture. Is it the same for your picture?

I think my mother was happy there wasn't christmas presents, or any holidays for that matter. It meant she didn't have to spend money.
I think most things we had as children, was from relatives. And even if they were christmas presents, the relatives pretended they weren't so that we could have them. That was ok with my mother because that meant she didn't have to spend money on us later.
The only thing she ever bought as a real present, was a microscope. Even made it part of a treasure hunt. But you know, as much as I liked it, I didn't feel grateful to my mother.
The best christmas memory for me was, being over at the neighborhood friends house and smelling the pine smell. And those big colorful lights that glowed.

Mrs. May in high school. She made me frame my art for a school exhibition. Until then, there wasn't anyone that put much value on my artwork. She was artsy and fun. She encouraged everyone in her classes to be free in their expressions. Just a really nice person.

What Made You Decide To Finally Leave The Organization?
by minimus inwas there one certain event or was it more a cumulative thing?.

I was raised in "The Truth" from 5 years onward. My life was full of depression over a God that seemed to find only flaws in me. But because I was told that this was "The Truth" I pretty much lived in the mental cage the WT constructed. Believing that they would never lie (anointed) I just trudged dejectedly in life.
I saw the Dateline program - it was disturbing. I called my BIL who was an elder. He said "you don't think Holy Spirit would allow that do you?" Of course not I thought. But I didn't forget it. A bookstudy elder said that it was ok to not tell the truth under persecution - as in lie. That bothered me, doesn't god hate liars?
I lived with my younger sister for many years and put up with her unkind remarks and put downs because I wanted to help her. It was only at the end, did I find that she counted on me believing she was always telling the truth. She also stole money from me too. I had to force her to pay me back.
Her bad example helped out, when my older sister called and explained about a pedophile that had moved into their congregation and how it was covered over. Combined with the dateline program, the encouragement to lie and my JW sister being a jerk, I thought if my sister could do that to me, why not an organization?
Still, you have to find evidence that it just isn't ignorance or weakness on the part of the leaders. That is when I really read the bible and compared it to the literature. That is when I knew that they knew they were wrong. Not a mistake but purposeful lying and manipulation. Gone.
